Ricky Ponting - Best Aussie

Ricky Ponting today became the highest run-scorer in Test cricket for Australia after moving past Allan Border's mark at Edgbaston.

Ponting started day two of the third Test against England needing eight runs to better Border's mark of 11,174 Test runs and achieved it with a clip through the leg side off Andrew Flintoff.

Australia needed Ponting to make a sizeable contribution today after losing Shane Watson and Mike Hussey to the first two balls of the day, but the captain became Graham Onions' third victim of the morning session when he was caught behind for 38.

Chelsea defeated Inter Milan

With goals by Didier Drogba & Frank Lampard, Chelsea defeated Inter Milan 2-0 at the World Football Challenge on Tuesday.

Drogba scored on a swerving 30 yard shot that Inter Milan goalkeeper Vid Belec deflected inside the right post.

After Inter Milan's Ivan Cordoba blocked Daniel Sturridge's shot with his right elbow Lampard scored Chelsea's 2nd goal.

At a conference Monday afternoon at the Four Seasons Hotel, Milan's Esteban Cambiasso was quoted to say "we are going to play a beautiful game but it's still just preseason," the Argentine midfielder said through an interpreter. "It's not going to have the impact of a must-win game like the Champions League would have." Cambiasso added this game will prepare the club for important games down the road.

Chelsea's Michael Essien, however was quoted to say "we're in preseason and it's just a friendly but we want to win," said Essien over the phone from Seattle. "We are all looking forward to it and hopefully Chelsea will win."

Both players were asked about the development of soccer in the U.S.
"It's been a slow progress in the buildup for popularity," Cambiasso said. "But you can see the passion among the youngsters."
"They are really developing soccer here," Essien said. "It's no surprise at all (seeing the U.S. beat Italy in the semifinals of the Confederations Cup). That gives them a lot to look up to and confidence to compete all over the world."

Inter Milan won their fourth consecutive Serie A championship in 2008-09. Chelsea, meanwhile, won England's FA Cup.

Chelsea and Inter Milan will next take on AC Milan, on Friday and Sunday respectively.
