The Power of Peppermint

Peppermint

Overview:
Peppermint (Mentha piperita ) is a common flavoring for gum, toothpaste, and tea, it's also used to relieve an upset stomach or to assist in digestion. Since it has a soothing and anesthetizing effect, it's frequently used to nurse headaches, nausea, skin irritations, diarrhea, bloating and menstrual cramps.

Bloating
Peppermint loosen up the muscles that permit the body to free itself of digestive gas that causes pain.

Indigestion
Peppermint relaxes the stomach muscles and increase the bile flow, which the body utilizes to digest fats. Consequently achieving digestion more rapidly. However, see you doctor if you have gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD, as peppermint tea should then be avoided.

Colds and Flu
Peppermint and its major element, menthol, are successful decongestants. Since menthol thins mucus, it helps loosen and breaks up coughs with phlegm. It also alleviates sore throats (pharyngitis) and dry coughs.
